News is everywhere. According to the Pew Research Center, 70% of Americans agree the amount of news and information available from different sources today is overwhelming. This overabundance of irrelevant information makes it difficult to find personally useful news.
Through surveys, directed storytelling and journals, we found that people’s most trusted news source was not the same as their most frequently used or most essential source. 84% of our survey respondents reported they consumed news several times a day during brief intervals of spare time, with no set routine.
Using a survey, journals, and interviews, we found that students sit for up to half of each day, both in and out of class.
